Technology
At Swallows Charter Academy, we embrace Information Technology and the potential it holds for supporting and innovating the learning and teaching process.
SCA recognizes its role as an agent of economic change. Computers extend and enhance our community and curriculum. Instruction in the effective, ethical, and appropriate uses of information technology is integrated into all corners of the high school program. Through this integration, we aim to prepare our students to make meaningful use of IT tools in college and beyond.
Math
Swallows Charter Academy focuses on building a strong conceptual base that helps students to become flexible thinkers, able to apply the mathematics they have learned to a rapidly changing world.
Math teachers have designed materials for incremental learning and to address a variety of learning styles, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Students learn concepts and skills by solving carefully sequenced problems; in class, students often work in cooperative groups.
Science
Swallows Charter Academy has new state of the art science labs for students to develop an advanced understanding in all areas of science using hands on experiences to enhance all learning. SCA high school students gain valuable skills that will prepare them for college level science courses. SCA embraces the STEM philosophy in education, building creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. SCA science courses along with math and technology incorporate inquiry based principles and an highly adaptable framewor to suit students of various needs, STEM fosters a love of learning.
Language Arts
SCA offers college level English courses that expand and refine the objectives of English Composition. The English department emphasizes critical/logical thinking and reading, problem definition, research strategies, and writing analytical, evaluative, and/or persuasive papers that incorporate research. SCA offers classes rich in tradition that focus on literature during the Romantic and Victorian eras in which the texts will be viewed and analyzed in historical, cultural, and critical contexts.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts Department offers a broad range of stimulating courses for students to study. Some of the courses include Drawing and Design, Advanced Projects, Ceramics, and Graphic Design.
Foundation level classes focus on building creative and technical skills through an array of media. Students also learn to develop their understanding of aesthetics and critical visual analyzation. As students progress onto the following levels they will continue to expand and hone their conceptual and technical knowledge. Advanced level courses are designed by the individual student allowing students to fully explore and express their own voice. There are major art exhibits with many smaller ones throughout the year. We embrace students with all levels of artistic training. As a department we strive to offer an environment for students that is creative and encouraging.
Performing Arts
SCA offers courses in the areas of performing arts that analyze the multidisciplinary aspects of the entire theatrical experience through individual and group performances. Students work as an ensemble, train in voice, movement, and acting techniques. SCA students also learn and apply music theory through performance experiences and score study.
